Next Meetings

As we approach the winter solstice, we are now well into our autumn season. The next meeting will be at the Smith Institute on Friday 11th January, at 7:30 pm. All welcome.

Next Evening Class: Thursday 3rd January. Classes take place in the Highland Hotel on the first Thursday of the month, at 7:00 pm.

Celestial Events in November

  • 5th: Crescent Moon, Venus and Spica are close in the pre-dawn sky
  • 9th: New Moon at 17h40m UT
  • 14th: Maximum of the Geminid meteor shower at 11h00mUT
  • 17th: Mercury at superior conjunction
  • 21st: Moon appears to move through Pleiades
  • 22nd: Maximum of the Ursid meteor shower
  • 22nd: Winter solstice occurs at 06h08m
  • 23rd: Jupiter is in conjunction with the Sun at 05h55m UT
  • 24th: Mars is at opposition at 20h00m UT
  • 24th: Full Moon at 01h16m UT
  • 24th: Moon occults Mars in Northern Scotland at around 03h40m UT
  • 30th: Comet 8P/Tuttle appears to move through M33 (Triangulum Galaxy)
