Stirling Astronomical Society Gallery

These spectacular auroral displays were seen in the Stirling area following powerful coronal mass ejections from Sunspot AR3664. The colours are produced by high energy particles from the Sun exciting atoms of Oxygen in the upper atmosphere to produce the green and red colours, with the blue and purple colours coming from Nitrogen.
