The Cone Nebula (NGC 2264) in Monoceros is an HII region approximately 2700 light years from Earth. The cone (upper right) is a pillar of denser gas in front of the main emission nebula. The group of bright stars below the nebula in this image is sometimes referred to as the Christmas Tree Cluster. Imaged using narrowband filters.
